Sites are coming along- Most stragglers are moving forward. Assignments are coming in- Thanks- I am moving forward on grading them. Some personal comments are below and some are on BB HW.
Re: your e-portfolio

Ok So what do you do with an e-portfolio?????- Many have reported getting a position and/or a promotion because theyt demopnstrate that they know content and can teach using technolohy
Review these sites see how well students present themselves. Accomplishing this without showing your face is possible and acceptable.

The first step is to create new pages- Lots of them so that you know how with repetition
Second step is to take your heading on your heading on your home page and to copy it to the top left column on all the pages you have created.
Make sure your heading is correct.... I have full directions on the e-portfolio page on the left sidebar

What a great class. Some are heavy into Math and hold quasi administrative position. Since we are learning Differentiated Instruction I have challenged some to create a second site for their school or math dept. Always ask for permission from your principal to create even a test site for  a school.

E-portfolio The sites are coming along nicely- .

So many ask what can I do with an e-portfolio? Or what would a site tour video look like?
So here are links to examples- Remember this Touro student may be applying for the same position you are.
THINK via email. When finished show your daughter!

Message 2

And we are off and running. I will respond to your work in one or more of the following:
Homework Assignments/Gradebbok (in BB) or on our class messages page http://touroweb.webhop.org click messages.

Many have created sites- See the links on the messages below. Some did not choose the default template as asked and chose a specialty template. THIS WILL CAUSE difficulty.  If you chose a specialty template please create a new site with a trailing 2 (no spaces). See messages to other classmates on this page.

If you have NOT already done so ALL are asked to complete the Pink Link above. This will give me your email for contact and other important information.

For those that wish to move ahead PLEASE model your site after
Munoz, Emma
schools.webhop.org/touroeampuero  , Heading on every page, two columns, etc.
NOTE that this is a PROFESSIONAL TEACHING SITE. It will be viewed in this manner. You will have plenty of time later to add creativity and personalization.

By Now all should have a site and the Phone.doc assignment done. Move on to additional assignments.

Tech Treat- How do they do this????Mind Reader or http://thedogpaddler.com/RandomUploads/Flash/AmazingMindReader/MINDREADER_Flash.swf
P.S. You may wish to create a Fun e-portfolio page and collect things like Mind Reader

~~~~~~ Message 1~~~ before (or at the beginning) of the start of class
Hi All,
After reading below FEAR should be setting in (Relax and watch the video of a former student Gina)
I have taught this and similar courses many times and found that typically students begin the course with trepidation at the integral use of technology and the concept of creatively responding to assignments.  After all who would think in a single course they would learn  to create a website, create upload and embed video lessons and topic discussions on their own site, and create an e-portfolio and printed portfolio. It is in fact that you will demonstrate your master of the course content with these new skills.
Mid way through the course students realize they can actually do it and feel empowered. At the end they appreciate both the content and skills the experience.
Please watch Michael Gelb
,
Five Secrets to High Performance (juggler) and then then trust in your professor and your classmates. Consider this a leap of faith that will teach you new skills and aid you in finding a job and possibly a promotion. It is quite common that some students have fear of this new online method of teaching. Others may fear technology. The course is quite simple and enjoyable once pieces come together (so I have been told - read comments), once the procedures are explained
OK to Let's Get Started
As part of the course I ask students to create a New Special Gmail (Google Email) in a special configuration (please do NOT use a current gmail) so that you can, learn to teach with technology, create an e-portfolio and so much more. It will also supply me with your contact information
Please review and Complete the form " Touro Gmail Accounts and Student Information All- plus E-portfolio" (see "Important 5" below)
 I hope you are as excited as I am, to participate in this online experience. Should you need to speak with me, email me at dstein@touro.edu  I also want to reassure you that you will receive help on the technology component from either myself or from willing classmates in BB Discussion Board FAQ. I have no doubt that all can (with the right encouragement and assistance) complete the assignments.
    IMPORTANT!!!
    I receive so many emails, and I automatically delete messages from senders that I do not recognize. To ensure that I do NOT delete your email, write your class "z" number found on our ONLINE students' page - (601sp11olstudents.htm), in the following form:
    The subject line should read your number (i.e. 121z601 , 122z601, etc.) followed by your name. An example  of a subject line would be 121z601 Dan Stein.
      1. This student messages page allows me to speak to each individual and all in the class can view ( listen in). During the course you will find individual messages. You ill see who is doing exemplary work!
    Some may even get "gold stars"
    When I write a new message I email all to check this very page.
    2. Respond to BB Discussion Board: PLEASE in addition, leave me a message on Blackboard Discussion Board Forum Messages 1-0. This will demonstrate that you can access Blackboard with your username/password and that you know the correct format for leaving a thread. It will also give you the experience of seeing messages left by classmates and my responses as well.
    3. Understand the course methodology: TECHNOLOGY: Please make the folder on your computer with your "z" number in C:\My Documents. This is where you should save all your assignments, see Naming. Your class number/prefix can be found on our students' page - (601sp11olstudents.htm),
    •  Review the course overview for 601- Also available on the home page
    •  IMPORTANT: Watch the multimedia tutorials, so you will learn how to name/save/upload assignments- Also available on the left link bar
    •  Review assignment, available on our home page . Note that they are all small discrete assignments. It looks like it is more than it is. If you are disturbed by this read comments (similar comments come from 603 students) from prior students
    4. Picture yourself in the class: I would be pleased to post a picture of you for our class website. If this is acceptable to you, please send me a photo of yourself. The file should be a professional pose (no beach shots please). Please name the file **z**pic1.jpg and attach it on BB Discussion Board (BBDB) Messages forum.
    5. IMPORTANT-
    All have been asked to create a special gmail account ( in a special format) for use in this course. We will NOT use this account for email but rather to accomplish other course requirements. For example you will be creating a FREE e-portfolio web site with this account. At the top of this message you will find a pink highlighted link with instructions on how to create the requested format email account.
    IMPORTANT: Many classmates have successfully created gmail accounts. These students can be found on the
    students page - (601sp11olstudents.htm), with a link to their FUTURE E-portfolio website.
    QUOTE (Professor Stein's Teaching Philosophy):
    "Good teaching is also about style. Should good teaching be entertaining? You bet! Does this mean that it lacks in substance? Not a chance! Effective teaching is not about being locked with both hands glued to a podium or having your eyes fixated on a slide projector while you drone on. Good teachers work the room and every student in it. They realize that they are the conductors and the class is the orchestra. All students play different instruments and at varying proficiencies".
    In some assignments you may be asked to reference Barron's Regents Review.
    Consider using the following site:
    .http://www.jmap.org/JMAP_REGENTS_EXAM_ARCHIVES.htm
    This site has Regents from 1866. YES I said 1866. Very Cool and a wonderful source for material.
    The exceptional student may wish to create an e-portfolio page Math Links and have JMAP.org right on their own site, to share with current future colleagues.
    Kudos to Casey Munz who wants to apply Differentiated Instruction to the Math Regents...
    Want to see Math Regents from 1866? Visit http://www.jmap.org/
    THE Exceptional student will create an e-portfolio page names Math Links
    Welcome to: Leggio, Jacqueline , Klein, Melissa, Mayer, Nicole, Rosario, Kelly
    Please make sure your gmail and E-portfolio are set up correctly. SEE prior messages for this class. Most have done this. If you have trouble ask for help in BBDB AFTER reading the messages to this class below. There are VIDEOS and printed directions to help you, as well as sample sites...
    About E-portfolio - What do we do after creating the site.... Add topic pages with headings...
    Newcomers to E-portfolio have created a site that looks like this
    • Let’s add some topic pages….
    • Prof. Stein likes 2 columns.
    • And make sure that we have contact information on each page.
    • This is required by the NYC  Internet Acceptable Use Policy that we abide by.
     Watch this video Adding Pages Link
    Other videos relating to the BB course and to E-portfolio for BB students can be referenced on schools.webhop.org/tourodsteinbb
    Some wish to go ahead- Differentiated Instruction would want me to provide a method for this.
    Congrats - Most have created their gmail correctly and their website TOO.
    - We have a very large class - The good news is that we have a special guest- Prof. Laurie Bobley. She wants to view an online class creating an e-portfolio. She is my guest and co-teacher. All may be communicating with her during the course Laurie.Bobley@touro.edu
    - I would like you all to meet Baljit Kaur a prior student with a GREAT e-portfolio created in a prior course- I expect she will receive anther HIGH grade- Please view her site http://schools.webhop.org/tourobkaur1 . I am sure she will guide you through should you have questions. I am asking Baljit and Laurie to monitor BBDB FAQ - where all students ask or answer questions to receive Class Participation Credit.
    Most have created their email and site- Please  look below for your INDIVIDUAL MESSAGE (above) . Click the sites that are already made.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~End of Messages for Summer 2011 ~~~~~~~~

    A Gentle Reminder

    Printed portfolios were due on 12/5/10.
    Students could request a week extension by making an entry on BBDB FAQ.
    This would mean that Printed Portfolios are due to me by 12/12/10
    All my information is on touroweb.webhop.org on the contacts page.

    Many have delivered the Printed portfolio to me and they are SUPERB! They are colorful and well organized with Tables of Contents and a section E-portfolio with color “Print Screens”. Lessons and a CD with video lessons and MORE….. Impressive.

    IMPORTANT-
    Blackboard is monitored (as it should be by) Touro BB supervisors. All assignment are Time/Date stamped. I mention this because the course is to be conducted over 12 weeks. Sometimes Life has its difficulties. I am very respectful of this and try to be understanding. If you have personal issues I am here to assist you (516-826-2867).

    ALSO
    After the printed e-portfolio is shipped to me IT MUST HAVE A TRACKING NUMBER (Fedex Ground preferred and it is inexpensive), ALL are asked to do a self reflection and request a grade….
    Remember the grade is comparative amongst the students in the class. All students were fictitious candidates for a Prime Teaching Position. The best 2 – 3 in the class would be the ones receiving the “A”. See how you fare with timely assignments, an e-portfolio, video lessons, participation in BB Discussion boards and FAQ and were you asking and answering questions in BBDB FAQ?

    ALSO- In the Grade request you will have a chance to name that person who helped you the most!!!!!!

    Here is the GRADE REQUEST also at
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=cDduRjFzNlpoamxvdDRIQWJUTjlwTUE6MA..

    Please see updated Student Messages.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Message6 Below ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You are in the Home Stretch,
    Many are concerned about their printed portfolio which is due to me on 12/5.
    Note that my address is on my site on the page "Contact Me".
    Consider that at the beginning of the course I asked that you consider that you are applying for a GREAT position ( High pay, great vacations, etc,). All classmates are the candidate pool. All would be considered on the basis of a professional Printed Portfolio, An E-portfolio, Lessons with videos , Lesson plans, and Student worksheets, Class participation on BBDB and submitted assignments to BBHW Assignments). The exceptional student will be creative and add to their printed portfolio...While all need sections and a Table of Contents some exceptional students in the past have added sections on how they use their new found skills in teaching students with disabilities, teaching with e-portfolio technology,  video, Math, etc.). This would be enjoyable to see.
    It is suggested that your printed portfolio have on the cover a print screen of your E-portfolio Home Page and all course information. A section on print screens of various pages is a welcomed addition. It is suggested that you may wish to make a second copy of this printed portfolio for yourself as it is something you may wish to bring to an interview or when requesting a promotion. The copy sent to me is kept and submitted to Touro as validation of your grade.
    Some in the class have had personal issues preventing them for completing assignments on time. Others have had some difficulties- Computer crashes, viruses, etc. I am most sympathetic and wish to be of assistance. Please understand however that all BB courses are monitored by my supervisors (as it should be). All colleges also are required to cover content and produce evidence of student learning outcomes. With this in mind know that all assignments need to be in BB DA and BBHW.  FEEL FREE to call me in the evening if you need to discuss personal problems and alternatives (516) 826-2867.
    I look forward to continuing to review your work online and to receiving your printed portfolio.
    IMPORTANT: IF you need a 1 WEEK EXTENSION you MUST request it in BBDB portfolio. In this case it needs to arrive at my home by Dec. 12th, 2010
    EXTRA CREDIT..
    Now that you have all been exposed to Technology I would like you to view some videos on Technology in Education.
    Hello All,
    I hope you are enjoying the experience of online. Many are doing exceptionally well. Assignments are coming in and for the most part I am very pleased.
    Below are comments to each of you. I see that many are enjoying FAQ and are helping each other. I am watching.
    NOTE: The Geometry lesson has been updated as the links in the pre-updated version no longer worked. This is to be expected. Just as people move an change their address so do websites.
    Some people have missed Assignments this week- PLEASE CATCH UP!
    Some are NOT submitting my assignments on the required templates. Most submitted assignments should have my heading at the top iin which you add your name and the filename. The filename is designated. All you do is add your z number as a prefix. If you have NOT already done so please read Naming and watch the tutorials. Soon you will be submitting your printed portfolio. Most of the assignments should have the designated class header.
    INTERESTING: I believe we are all in the midst of an Internet video revolution. If you have time (NOT REQUIRED) you may wish to watch TED.
    TED speaks of  "Crowd Accelerated Innovation"
    TED has given me much to think about. I hope you find it interesting. Please comment in FAQ with subject “Internet Video with TED, my thoughts”.
    Welcome to EDSE 601 ONLINE
    As part of the course I ask students to create a New Special Gmail in  a special configuration so that you can, learn to teach with technology, create an e-portfolio and so much more. Many students have told me that it was an important factor in landing them a job and or getting a promotion, Directions on how to create the special account is in he form below. It will also supply me with your contact information
    Please review and Complete the form " Touro Gmail Accounts and Student Information All- plus E-portfolio" (see "Important 5" below)
     I hope you are as excited as I am, to participate in this online experience. Should you need to speak with me, email me at dstein@touro.edu  I also want to reassure you that you will receive help on the technology component from either myself or from willing classmates in BB Discussion Board FAQ. I have no doubt that all can (with the right encouragement and assistance) complete the assignments.
    It is quite common that some students have fear of this new online method of teaching. Others may fear technology. The course is quite simple and enjoyable (so I have been told - read comments), once the procedures are explained. Letter from an online student
    Please view a video course review from a prior student  - Gina (liive) - Sue (online)
    IMPORTANT!!!
    I receive so many emails, and I automatically delete messages from senders that I do not recognize. To ensure that I do NOT delete your email, write your class "z" number found on our ONLINE students page - (601su10olstudents.htm), in the following form:
    The subject line should read your number (i.e. 121z601 , 122z601, etc.) followed by your name. An example  of a subject line would be 121z601 Dan Stein.
      1. This student messages page allows me to speak to each individual and all in the class can view ( listen in). During the course you will find individual messages. You will see who is doing exemplary work!
    Some may even get "gold stars"
    When I write a new message I email all to check this very same page.
    2. Respond to BB Discussion Board: PLEASE in addition, leave me a message on Blackboard Discussion Board Forum Messages 1-0. This will demonstrate that you can access Blackboard with your username/password and that you know the correct format for leaving a thread. It will also give you the experience of seeing messages left by classmates and my responses as well.
    3. Understand the course methodology: TECHNOLOGY: Please make the folder on your computer with your "z" number in C:\My Documents. This is where you should save all your assignments, see Naming. Your class number/prefix can be found on our students page - (601su10olstudents.htm)
    •  Review the course overview for 603- Also available on the home page
    •  IMPORTANT: Watch the multimedia tutorials, so you will learn how to name/save/upload assignments- Also available on the left link bar
    •  Review assignment, available from our home page or from Blackboard Assignments . Note that they are all small discrete assignments. It looks like it is more than it is. If you are disturbed by this read comments (similar comments come from 603 students) from prior students.
    4. Picture yourself in the class: I would be pleased to post a picture of you for our class website. If this is acceptable to you, please send me a photo of yourself. The file should be a professional pose (no beach shots please). Please name the file **z**pic1.jpg and attach it on BB Discussion Board (BBDB) Messages forum.
    5. IMPORTANT-
    All have been asked to create a special gmail account ( in a special format) for use in this course. IT is NOT necessary to use this account for email but rather to accomplish other course requirements. For example you will be creating a FREE e-portfolio web site with this account. At the top of this message you will find a pink highlighted link with instructions on how to create the requested format email account.
    IMPORTANT: Many classmates have successfully created gmail accounts. These students can be found on the
    students page - (601su10olstudents.htm)) with a link to their FUTURE E-portfolio website.
    QUOTE (Professor Stein's Teaching Philosophy):
    "Good teaching is also about style. Should good teaching be entertaining? You bet! Does this mean that it lacks in substance? Not a chance! Effective teaching is not about being locked with both hands glued to a podium or having your eyes fixated on a slide projector while you drone on. Good teachers work the room and every student in it. They realize that they are the conductors and the class is the orchestra. All students play different instruments and at varying proficiencies".
    Hello, Students!
    I have been following your progress on Blackboard.  So far, I must say that I am pleased!  This course is engaging and the vast majority
     of you are doing well.  What pleases me most is that several of you have gone out of your way to help your fellow students, which is
    the type of initiative of being a "Great Teacher".
    Everyone should be working on their E-portfolios.  For additional assistance in setting your e-portfolio up, go to our tutorial website:
    At the link destination is a series of multimedia tutorials that will explain each step of the way  Also when you are editing a page on
     your Google site choose "Help" at the top right menu.
    ALL should see those currently in my classes doing exceptional work:
    In 601, Sherri House has been going out of her way to make assignments easier by finding sample resumes for your resume assignment.
    In 603, Tracy Boyer has been answering questions on FAQ or students who need a little help.
    Good work, both of you!
    So far, the most impressive E-Portfolio belongs to Neil Winchel in 603.  Follow his example and see what you can do!
    Communicate with cassmates and keep the assignments coming in to BBHW and BBDB!  Make me proud!
    MESSAGES TO STUDENTS #1
    Prof. Stein wants to know that ALL students read this message.
    After reading it please respond by adding a thread to BB Discussion Board Forum 0-1 with the format below.
    Subject: **zmessages1(**z is your number found on your students page on the left) State that you have read this message
    ( example: Message1)
    As part of the course I ask students to create a New Special Gmail in a special configuration so that you can, learn to teach with technology, create an e-portfolio and so much more. Many students have told me that it was an important factor in landing them a job and or getting a promotion.  Directions on how to create the special account is in he form below.  It will also supply me with your contact information
    Please review and Complete the form " Touro Gmail Accounts and Student Information All- plus E-portfolio" (see "Important 5" below)
    I hope you are as excited as I am to participate in this online experience. Should you need to speak with me, email me at dstein@touro.edu  I also want to reassure you that you will receive help on the technology component from either myself or from willing classmates in BB Discussion Board FAQ. I have no doubt that all can (with the right encouragement and assistance) complete the assignments.
    It is quite common that some students have fear of this new online method of teaching. Others may fear technology. The course is quite simple and enjoyable (so I have been told - read comments) once the procedures are explained.
    Please view a video course review from a prior student - LINK.
    IMPORTANT!!!
    I receive so many emails that I automatically delete messages from senders that I do not recognize. To ensure that I do NOT delete your email, write your class "z" number found on our ONLINE students page - (603fa09olstudents.htm) in the following form:
    The subject line should read your number (i.e. 121z601, 122z601, etc.) followed by your name. An example of a subject line would be 121z601 Dan Stein.
    1. This student messages page allows me to speak to each individual and all in the class can view ( listen in). During the course you will find individual messages. You will see who is doing exemplary work!
    Some may even get "gold stars"
    When I write a new message I email all to check this very page.
    2. Respond to BB Discussion Board: PLEASE in addition, leave me a message on Blackboard Discussion Board Forum Messages 1-0. This will demonstrate that you can access Blackboard with your username/password and that you know the correct format for leaving a thread. It will also give you the experience of seeing messages left by classmates and my responses as well.
    3. Understand the course methodology: TECHNOLOGY: Please make the folder on your computer with your "z" number in C:\My Documents. This is where you should save all your assignments, see Naming. Your class number/prefix can be found on our students page - (603sp10olstudents.htm)
    •  Review the course overview for 603- Also available on the home page
    •  IMPORTANT: Watch the multimedia tutorials, so you will learn how to name/save/upload assignments- Also available on the left link bar
    •  Review assignment, available on our home page . Note that they are all small discrete assignments. It looks like it is more than it is. If you are disturbed by this read comments (similar comments come from 603 students) from prior students
    4. Picture yourself in the class: I would be pleased to post a picture of you for our class website. If this is acceptable to you, please send me a photo of yourself. The file should be a professional pose (no beach shots please). Please name the file **z**pic1.jpg and attach it on BB Discussion Board (BBDB) Messages forum.
    5. IMPORTANT-
    All have been asked to create a special Gmail account ( in a special format) for use in this course. We will NOT use this account for email but rather to accomplish other course requirements. For example you will be creating a FREE e-portfolio web site with this account. At the top of this message you will find a pink highlighted link with instructions on how to create the requested format email account.
    IMPORTANT: Many classmates have successfully created Gmail accounts. These students can be found on the
    students page - (603sp10olstudents.htm) with a link to their FUTURE E-portfolio website.
    Hello everyone!
    The printed portfolios have started coming in and so far I am pleased!  If you have not yet sent me your portfolio, please contact me immediately!  Email me with your z number in the subject line with the message 'Portfolio Late.'  Portfolios were originally due on 11/22, and any one week extension given has expired by 11/29.  It is now 12/10.  Portfolios are officially late.  Please check the calendar.  The official date the course ends is 12/13.  Marks will be calculated on 12/14.  If you have not handed in your portfolios, make sure they are here by the 14th..
    The course is winding to a close.  While the course is finishing, think back about what you have learned.  When writing your student outcomes, keep these in mind.  How can all this be implemented in the classroom?  How can you use all of what you learned to differentiate instruction?
    As you become better teachers, remember that the classroom is full of resources to make each learning experience an individual learning experience.
    Please complete the Grade Request.- Self Evaluation.  Link: (http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=cDduRjFzNlpoamxvdDRIQWJUTjlwTUE6MA..)  While filling yours out, remember to state which students helped you the most during the class.
    Anne O'Connor of class 603 http://student.webhop.org/touroaoconnor
    Celina Shannon of class 603 http://student.webhop.org/tourocshannon
    Please change your site URL from student.webhop.org, use schools.webhop.org.  After all, we don't want the world to think you will remain a student forever.
    I see excellent work.  You have done very well and I am pleased.
    I am seeing some good work with your E-Portfolios.  Many of you are using the resources well, and I have seen some interesting responses to the Differentiated Instruction assignments and to the Lesson assignments.
    I am looking forward to viewing your videos.  For he best results, compress the videos to the smallest possible size.  Teachertube is not as fast as Youtube.com, and as such has trouble uploading files in the triple digit megabyte numbers.  I usually recommend the MP4 format.  Try that and see how it works- google search for MP4 converters and you can find them for free!
    Almost all have created their designated NEW gmail address and completed the form.  If you have not yet done this I expect you will have GREAT difficulty as we move forward.
     Touro Gmail Accounts and Student Information All- plus E-portfolio
    The above was STEP 1
    We are ready to move you forward in your e-portfolio creation.
    STEP 2 is to create your e-portfolio site with the first part of your gmail (leave off the @gmail.com)
    Directions on how to do this, with video tutorials are on
    professorstein.com - e-portfolio create
    AFTER you create your site you will need to know how to give someone directions to get to your site (your address)
    Your site will be viewable at (this is your Domain or URL)
    student.webhop.org/tourofirstletterofyourfirstnamelastname
    Try it?
    After creation try to view your site from other computers ( i.e. at school, work, Touro, at the library) from other browsers.
    This will convince you that you can see it from anywhere around the world.
    Oh Yes.. Once you create your e-portfolio site, let others view it. Please go to BBDB and in the BBFAQ add a thread "z# yourname -View my site"
    In the body of the thread write your address ( domain, url) it should be in the form
     "student.webhop.org/tourofirstletteroffirstnamelastname"
    If you recall all are in cooperative competition in applying for that desirable and imaginary teaching position.
    Helping others gains class participation points. Share comments and collaborate! It is ENJOYABLE and CREATIVE.
    add your name and that's all for now.
    Later we will create new pages
    Greetings to all!
    I have noticed a recent habit of some students sending .docx or blank files.  This is all accidental, but be careful.  If the file cannot be read unless the receiving person has MS Word 2007. This is most important should you be sending a resume for a possible possible new position or promotion, I have no recourse but to clear out the file so you can try again.  To promote this I am requesting that you resend your docx document as a  doc ( Word 2003)document. So, if some of you find that you are missing assignments please resubmit it.
    I am seeing some exceptional work.  Pay attention to Claribel Nunez, and ask her about her video outline (she's going to show how to make rock candy!).  You've started posting lessons, and I am going over them.  So far, I like what I see!
    I can see you are making excellent progress in the assignments, and E-Portfolios are going up.  I have been looking over the websites and have been making notes to the ones that have caught my eye.  In the meantime, we're beginning to post lessons on Blackboard and preparing our video lessons.
    Jennifer S (722z603) has a very impressive website!  She's added multiple pages and has started posting links, and is off to a great head start!
    Seems Jennifer S. (722z603) and Frank P. (720z603) are top contenders in Sokoban -. Read their FUN messages on BBDB 2-6 Sokoban. MY compliments to both! I asked all it give it a try but these students are just Brilliant!!!!!!!!!
    ~Smiling~
    Several of you have begun your E-portfolios, and added gadgets and their own personal touches to their sites.  Now we need more!  More sites need to be created in the meantime.  If you have any questions or are having trouble making your E-portfolio, Go to professorstein.com - e-portfolio create.
    There are multimedia Jing videos showing you how to create your e-portfolio website. IT MUST BE AT A SPECIFIED PLACE ON THE WEB.  Therefore when you create the site name it MUST BE the first part of your class specific email.
    Now, go there and start your E-portfolios!  From what has been shown so far, there will be some truly great portfolios made by this class!
    Keep the assignments coming in!!!!!
    Triangle Puzzle. Ask a Math Teacher. You may take joy in confusing them! Hehehehe
    If you are perplexed by the triangle assignment, here is a hint. The top and bottom triangle are NOT the same! The top is a triangle and the area can be found with the formula A=1/2 b*h
    The bottom is a quadrilateral whose compound area  can be found by adding the areas of several partial shapes. (explanation/example of compound area)
    Can you write the formulas for each and see if this helps you understand the reason the bottom shape has an extra square?
    Keep up the good work and continue helping each other. Make Me Proud!
    Below find individual messages to students- I try to say something to each of you, much as a teacher would speak to a class. Thus you can see who is doing exceptional work and perhaps contact them via email or respond to them in a BB Discussion Board. You will see that the messages  are in 2 columns. One for your class work and one for your e-portfolio website as it is being worked on. Click the link to view others sites and see what you can learn and accomplish. Often I will make comments here rather than inside BB so that all can view them.
    Brain Assignment: Thank many of you for assisting with the 1-2 **brain assignment. As the assignment page states it should be attached in 2 places. BBDB worked fine. I have fixed the BBHW to allow the attachment of the file. This assignment is to demonstrate that there are 2 places which a student can upload files and the distinction between BBDB and BBHW. Some have NOT yet completed the brain assignment- Please do so now.
    ** systems Assignment- As yet some have not yet done this assignment- It will show you how my system works. Please do it ASAP.
    Most are doing very well. LOOK FOR 's
    PLEASE remember to include a cd with your videos when you send in your printed portfolio.
    Also note that Blackboard comments to grade center Home Work Assignments as well as personal messages may be listed below.
    At the outset all created a touroXX@gmail.com address where XX = touro+firstletteroffirstnameLastname.
    This allowed each to create an e-portfolio teaching website.
    The google site you were asked to create was named touroXX
    If this was done correctly… Your site on the web would be found at schools.webhop.org/touroXX
    For an explanation paradigm of websites
    The Glass House Approach explains the Internet address ( URL) and whether you are in or outside the house and can be found on www.learnwithtech.com
    OK so let’s review
    An e-portfolios is a website (with many pages)
    Each page should have
    “This is the personal website of
    YOUR NAME
    created at Touro College
    Email touroXX@gmail.com"
    The purpose the website for the EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT is to demonstrate to any future employer that you are in touch with the latest methods and practices. Note you do NOT need to have all these pages.... Try adding some pages if you choose.
    Hi,
    Most are getting up to speed.I know in the beginning online is a lot to become familiar with.
    I was most impressed by a response to a Great Teacher assignment from 417z610 Wilder. Here is what he wrote.
    “The person I have chosen as a “great teacher” is a person that I have never actual met face to face. Her name is Mary Bowden and she taught a world history class for Empire State College that I recently completed online.
    One of the reasons I feel she is a great teacher is because the assignments were creative and could almost be considered as “fun”. One of the assignments called for us to role play the part of an emperor who had just taken over the kingdom and was addressing his subjects for the first time. We had to explain what methods and strategies we would use to lead the empire into a golden age. Are choices were limited to those that had been used by previous empires and we needed to explain why we chose those methods and strategies. There were other assignments similar to this one where we would need to do research, but then put a personal spin to it.”
     OK – Ready to take the e-portfolio plunge….Not for the faint of heart. Earn Smiley's if you can do it quickly!!!!
     Here is what to do…Go to professorstein.com - e-portfolio create.
    There are multimedia Jing videos showing you how to create your e-portfolio website. IT MUST BE AT A SPECIFIED PLACE ON THE WEB.
    Therefore when you create the site name it MUST BE the first part of your class specific email.
    So FIRST watch the tutorials up to and including Create Your Domain. On the “Home page” write as I did in the tutorial (Create Domain)
    How will you know if you have done it correctly…. Go to the students page on Touroweb.webhop.org and click the predefined link next to your name.
    IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL the rest is EASY…
    Let ALL KNOW by
    1- Going to BBDBFAQ
    2- In the subject Line write NAME – Domain created!
    Explain to others your experience in the e-portfolio creation.
    Domains can be reached on from a browser at student.webhop.org/(first part of your new gmail address)
    COURSE CLOSING!!!!!
    Hi All,
     Well the Printed portfolios are coming in. Many are EXCELLENT
    IMPORTANT  – After sending your printed portfolios please complete this Self Assessment- Grade Request
    Some were held up for a variety of reasons.
    All printed portfolios must be received by me by 4/27., as grades MUST GO IN for the entire class.
    Please look to the left for my contact information.
    Note that I will be receiving work in print and will review additional submissions to BB HW as needed.
    If you care to feel free to send me a letter ( with your letterhead), telling me about your online experience. Online courses
    often depicted as impersonal, boring, lack creativity and are not practical. I would enjoy hearing your reaction and the items you found
    exciting. This is optional and has NO bearing on your grade. If so please email the letter to me with your z number and course comments as
    the subject line.
    Extra-
    Did you know that you can make an easier name for your website. You can take tour current site
    schools.webhop.org/touroXXX  and make it into XXX.webhop.org
    It is called a redirect and is like a speed dial on your telephone.
    Thus you could with permission of your principal make a school site in the form PS123Q.webhop.org
    To do this go to www.dyndns.org and use webhop.org redirect.
    Next
    Many would like to use some educational games on this site.
    Please visit my site schools.webhop.org/emaginatorium and choose a few.
    By adding a few at a time to your site visitors keep coming back to see what is new.
    Thank you for being in my course. I enjoyed the exchange.
    Note to find out how to extend your license certification please visit
    programs.webhop.org and remember that I will be teaching 601, 603 and 606 in Forest Hills ( summer 2) and 601 and 606 in Bay Shore (Sunday 1 and 2)
    IMPORTANT--- IF YOU NEED EdSE 650 and can attend SUNDAY 2 in forest Hills please contact me ASAP…
    Regards,
    Prof. Stein
    I have sent emails to several students who have NOT as yet uploaded to BB Assignments.
    I am concerned that these students may not know how to use BB.
